Brian Siskoy tied the knot with the woman he loves one year ago today. The Berkley couple agreed to exchange traditional gifts as each year passes. You know, the old-fashioned "paper" gift after one year, "cotton" in year two and so on. So I get to be "paper.
" That's right. If you're reading this column the "traditional" way — in print — you're holding Camille DaDamio's anniversary gift that she receives today. In exchange for making my space available to Siskoy, I got to grill him about his new life.
QUESTION: Brian? Can I ask you a question. ANSWER: Please do.
Are we both gonna lose our man cards today. I hope not. (Laughs. Tell me what we're doing today. Today I'm here to help celebrate my wife and my one-year anniversary as a new couple. And I'm here to profess my absolute and undying love for her.
So. you're going to hand your wife a copy of the newspaper with this article in it. Exactly! That's the plan.
One day I was driving past the Detroit Free Press printing plant, trying to figure out what in the heck am I going to give my wife for "paper. " And the idea just dawned on me. "Oh, my gosh, the newspaper! How perfect!" I had no contacts at the Detroit Free Press whatsoever, but I knew that this was what I wanted to do. I wanted to figure out a way to get my words into paper, whether it was my words or someone transcribing my feelings for her.
Brian Siskoy, 28, shows a photo of his wedding to Camille DaDamio, 25. (Photo: Jim Schaefer Detroit Free Press). So, what's the year been like? The honeymoon's over. One year in. The honeymoon itself was, honestly, absolutely incredible. When we moved in together, it was such a happy day being able to combine all of our things and just know that this was our new life together, in this house with our two adorable cats that are training us very well for the future children that we may have. That we will have.
How did you two meet. We met at General Motors.
We actually met through a mutual friend. … When my friend came over, she brought Camille over to my house for this barbecue and, literally, Camille walked in my front door one day. So you've been married for a year, what is it that you love about your wife. What do I love about Camille? She truly, truly, truly makes me a better person in every possible way. It might sound silly, but she's kind of the yin to my yang. Basically, I'm a little bit unorganized sometimes, a little bit free-spirited, free-willed, and she's a little bit more organized, but still loves to have fun.
So she kind of gives me that balance. And I just know that being with her is going to make me a better person and a happier person every single day. Whenever I'm sad, she's there to try to cheer me up. No matter what, she's always been the one to really pull us back together if there's been any sort of argument or anything like that. How do you think she'll feel about your gift of this newspaper column.
Hoping for tears. (Laughs. ) Hoping for tears. I know a lot of my guy friends tell me I go over the top sometimes and put a lot of other guys to shame, but that's just kind of who I am. (Smiles.
I was going to ask you … what do your male friends think about you shaming them with stunts like this.
Yeah (laughs), they pretty much say, "Brian, why do you have to keep going big like that?" … But, you know, I like it. She deserves it. She's a wonderful woman and she's the love of my life. We're actually our first love for each of us, first serious relationship for both of us, so for those people who say that it can't be your first one that you fall in love with, to them I say, you're wrong. (Laughs. ) You're absolutely wrong. So what's the future hold for you two.
We both have very common goals for our future. We want kids eventually. We want to travel. So that's kind of our thing right now.
We want to see the world together. We actually have a big trip to Italy planned next year with her family, so that's gonna be wonderful. We want to see more of everywhere, Europe, Caribbean, Asia, everywhere.
We want to travel the world and experience it together. Eventually, be blessed with children, raise them. … Have cats, and a dog and just kind of live the American Dream, I guess. Anything you'd like to say directly to her.
I just want to say this has been the best year of my entire life. And I am so excited for the next 90 or 100 years with you as my wife.
I know you're going to make me so happy and I plan to do exactly the same to you. I love you so much. (Blows a kiss.
